Coach Rodrigo Baptista commented, "We were really pleased to win our first tournament after forming the team through the tryouts this past winter.  The girls were especially happy to win the age bracket one year up, and to only allow a single goal the entire tournament.  We feel we are layiing the foundation for another strong MVLA team to compete in ECNL."

The Vipers Blue opened Bracket A group play with a resounding 6-1 win over the Flames United 00B from Stockton CA. The team faltered that afternoon, losing 4-2 to the Bay Oaks United 2000 of central Alameda County. The boys rebounded on Sunday morning, beating the Inter Rage Academy Cosmos of Sacramento by a score of 3-2 to earn 20 points and finish second in their bracket.  The Vipers Blue then went on to win the Consolation game in a dominating 8-0 performance over Sagebrush United 00B Red of Northern Nevada.  That game included hat tricks by Brandt Hedgpeth and Harry Allen.  Full standings are available here.

Tegam McGrady of the MVLA Mercury 96G Black was selected to the U-17 WNT player pool, and attended national team training camp in March.  The camp was held at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista CA.  Tegan plays left back for the Mercury Black, and was previously recognized for her play in the Fall 2012 ECNL season (see the story on our website here).  The MVLA Mercury 96G Black competed in its first ECNL season this past Fall, and reached the USYSA Championships in 2012.  The official US Soccer announcement of the U-17 player pool can be found here.

Midfielders Jaye Boissiere and Zoe Pacalin along with forward Gabby Matulich were selected to the U-18 WNT pool, and will attend national team training camp in April.  Jaye, Zoe and Gabby all play for the MVLA Lightning 95G.  The MVLA Lightning 95G competed in its first ECNL season this past Fall, and reached the USYSA Championships in 2010 and 2012.  The official US Soccer announcement of the U-18 player pool can be found here.

The Vipers Black opened group play with a resounding 7-0 win over the OV Earthquakes 00B Red from Morgan Hill.  The team faltered that afternoon, losing 1-0 to the Pacifica United Lightning 00B.  The Vipers Black rebounded on Sunday morning, beating the OV Earthquakes 00B Black 2-0 to earn 19 points and finish at the top of the standings after group play.  The team then went on to win the Final 4-1 over Pacifica United Lightning avenging their loss from previous afternoon.  Full standings are available here.

The MVLA Monsoon 99G Blue team played well through two rounds of group play to land in the highest elimination bracket, the Red 1 State 1 bracket.  The Monsoon Blue prevailed over their quarterfinal opponent Mustsang Pride 99G and semifinal opponent San Juan SC Spirits 00 Blue by drawing each through regulation and overtime before winning through penalty kicks.  On February 17th, the Monsoon Blue faced the Santa Rosa United Tremors in the final and lost 2-0.  By reaching the finals, Monsoon Blue placed 2nd place in a tournament field of 124 teams from all over Northern California.  You can see the group schedule here and finals bracket here.

The MVLA Blue Thunder 99G Blue team also had strong group play to place them in the second-highest elimination bracket, the Red 1 State 2 bracket.  The Blue Thunder handled their quarterfinal opponent Impact 99G of Brentwood in a 2-0 win, and then beat North Bay Elite FC 99G 1-0 in the semifinal round.  On February 17th, the Blue Thunder fell to the Pleasanton Rage 99G Premier 1-0 to place second in the bracket, and 10th in a tournament field of 124 teams from all over Northern California.  You can see the Blue Thunder group schedule here and the bracket here.

The Avalanche 01G Blue beat the Santa Rosa United Earthquakes 1-0 in Turlock CA to progress to the finals.  Avalanche Blue play Sunday, February 10th for the championship against Ajax United Elite 02G.  You can go to the NorCal website to see the Avalanche Blue schedule & scores or view as a bracket.

The Blue Thunder 99G won 2-0 over the East Bay United Impact 99G in the quarter finals of the U13 Girls Red 1 State 2 bracket held in Woodland CA.  The Blue Thunder go on to the semifinals against the North Bay EFC 99G Blue to be played on Sunday, February 10th.  You can go to the NorCal website to see the Monsoon Blue bracket and schedule & scores.
