Albertin Montoya Named Head Coach of Bay FC

Albertin Montoya becomes the first coach of Bay FC in the NWSL


Bay FC, the Bay Area’s newest professional women’s soccer franchise in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), has announced Albertin Montoya as the club’s inaugural head coach. Montoya, a seasoned coach with deep roots in the Bay Area, brings decades of experience across professional, collegiate, and youth levels.


General Manager Lucy Rushton emphasized that Montoya’s coaching philosophy, focusing on possession-based play and technical development, aligns with Bay FC’s vision for an exciting and forward-thinking style of soccer.“His reputation within the football community speaks for itself—there is a tremendous amount of respect for him as a coach, as a leader, and as a person,” Rushton stated.


Montoya expressed his honor in being named the inaugural head coach, stating, “Together, we’ll create a legacy of determination, unity, and excellence. Our journey begins today, and I’m eager to recruit and lead an elite group of athletes towards a future filled with triumphs.”


Albertin played his entire youth career at MVLA SC. He played in MVLA's first ever national championship match, and in 2010 won a USYS National Championship with MVLA as the head coach of MVLA Lightning.

In the 2024-2025 club cycle, MVLA had a total of ten players called up to youth national team camps and competitions. Seven of the players represented the United States, and three others represented federations from South America.
